Two trucks showed up and spent an hour over by a pedestal. They confirmed a problem and connected us to another pair of wires.

FCC notified me they had a response from Centurylink and a letter would follow from Centurylink. It came and Centurylink was good enough to credit me the full termination amount of $200. My only misgiving at this point is that I had to go through the whole process to...

Refund of Charges for Equipment from Centurylink
During the last week of December 2015, we decided we had enough of the $170/month bills from Centurylink. Paid final bill in full in January after cancelling my service 12/28/2015. I took my modem, and TV box back to their local office to turn them in physically and...

Resolved: I need a 2nd choice. | Centurylink review from Ames, Iowa

We contacted Centurylink and arranged for them to hook us up. The original install date was Sept. 4th. No service yet. We called them back and they arranged to send their service people out on Sept. 14th. 3/4 through the day on the 14th they call and say they can't make it that day, how about the 15th. Ok, on the 15th I get a call from the service guy, telling me that the box on our house was hooked up, but the service was not connected at the street. He was going to correct that. We were not able to check for service until the 19th. Still no service. I called them back and was told the earliest they could look at it was Oct. 11th. Centurylink has not "exceeded" my expectations of what good service should be at this point. They have however, been quick to send me a bill for service and installation. Still no service. Not sure how many more chances they'll get, but I'm taking suggestions for an alternate service provider. I guess we'll see what happens on the 11th. It is now the 11th, and Centurylink was a no show. When I called to find out why, I was told they had to change my appointment, but didn't tell me. I explained I had waited 3 weeks for this one, and it was because they needed me at home. They offered to come out tomorrow, but I have to work and can't be home. The next weekend appointment is weeks out.

Resolved: Unintelligible Customer Service | Centurylink review from Foley, Alabama

Update by user Aug 14, 2015

The saga continues. Century Link charged $26.25 for reconnecting what they incorrectly disconnected. When I reached a human after painfully working my way through too many computer questions, she refused to discuss the problem with me since I was not on the "authorized list." Rather than deal with the inept customer service by phone, I'll make the 30-minute trip to the local office so I can eyeball a representative.

Update by user Jul 20, 2015

Finally, I encountered a CenturyLink employee, Rodney, who was intelligent, articulate, and effective. Calling first, he checked my phone line and discovered that the problem was not in the line but in elsewhere, where it had been originally disconnected, as I had tried vainly to convince anyone who would listen.

I'll mark as "resolved," but the only thing that has been resolved is restoration of phone service, not the inept and unintelligible customer service.

Update by user Jul 18, 2015

Perhaps I should have said "imbecilic" as well as "unintelligible" customer service in the title.

First, my phone service was canceled when I wanted to cancel only DSL. Second, after several calls to set up a service call, the service call was canceled for no reason.

With persistence, another service call was then scheduled between 12 and 5 on Saturday with the promise of a call before arrival.

I called at 3:30 to learn that the serviceman was given the wrong unit number, even though the correct unit was on file. When he found nothing wrong, the service ticket was closed AGAIN!!!

Makes me remember how bad cable service was ten years ago, driving me to DISH.

Original review posted by user Jul 18, 2015

When I disconnected my DSL and returned my modem, the phone service was inappropriately disconnected. After pushing too many unnecessary buttons to get to customer service in some foreign country, I could not understand three different customer service representatives nor could they understand me, only reading by rote the pre-scripted responses in front of them. When I finally asked to speak to a supervisor, I was greeted with obvious displeasure. Nevertheless, I was told service would be restored in 24 hours. The next day, after 22 hours, I called customer service again, this time being told that the "ticket" for service had been canceled, I'm thinking by a resentful representative. Now I'm standing by for another several hours, hoping my service is restored so that I never ever again have to call CenturyLink Customer Service.

I have graciously allowed Century Link to dig a very deep hole in my front lawn, where they indeed found a rotting linkage of cables. The crew from San Francisco was delightful and told me I was the kindest, friendliest homeowner whose yard they had invaded.

The insisted on including me in a photo with them to take to headquarters -- Mountain High Contractors, was it? Something like that -- to show how welcoming I was.

Oh dear, here it is more than a week later (after the local crew came the next day and used my roofer's dumpster and, well, "took"? the particle boards the roofer left for me (I did pay for ithem, after all!) and the hole and 2 orange cones are still there. I have had no calls or communication from the Contractor; they promised the clean everything up and resod the lawn.

My month-long attempt to revive the lawn is now ruined; I'm trying to sell the house and it looks absolutely horrible! 2 little girls nearly fell in the open edges at dusk, putting me at legal risk.

When they came to tell me they would have to dig (after insisting vehemently the would NOT dig in my property) the secreted a video recorder; i said "go ahead, I don't care anymore, I'll be dead tomorrow" (an old joke we used often as dark humor in the OR) and the next thing I knew, the police were there to take me off to the Psych Ward for 72 hours. Within minutes they ascertained what nonsense that was -- in a way it was kind of sweet they cared enough, though of course not qualified to make medical judgements in that vein.

Please return and fix my lawn!

Do you ever keep your word? Communication is the key!

We are still wrangling with CenturyLink about a $250 payment they claim they never received, the bank shows it was taken out of our account and still CenturyLink says they never got it. This was an online bill pay and this has been going on, back and forth for three months!!!!
