After filing a complaint with the FCC it was determined that CenturyLink errored and I was supposed to be informed of the low income rate when I signed up and the termination fee could be dropped or I could apply to have the low income service. Nothing has changed about the low speeds however.

From the FCC:

The FCC receives numerous complaints annually regarding wireline billing issues. In recent years, the FCCโ€™s Enforcement Bureau has taken action to address unauthorized charges (cramming), unauthorized carrier changes (slamming) and truth-in-billing issues, issuing fines of tens of millions of dollars. EB continues to monitor wireline billing issues and target systemic violators.

I have had it with CenturyLink and their deceptive business practices.

From just this website, consumers have reportedly lost over $415,000.

There are hundreds of thousands of consumers who have no idea they can file a complaint or that they are being ripped off on a grand scale.

Reviewing others' complaints, they tend to be having the same issues: fraudulent representation by this company in price gouging, billing practices, speeds, etc.

All of these issues are handled by the FCC and /or FTC and ALL are reportable offenses.

Filing a complaint with the FCC is easy and takes about 2 minutes online.

It's time for a Class Action to represent Consumers.

Reason of review: Ripped Off - all of the above..

Monetary Loss: $164.

Preferred solution: Class Action Lawsuit Against CL For Deceptive Business Practices.

CenturyLink Cons: Unwarranted price increases, Fraud, Deceptive practices, Excuses.

Been with century link for 3 years, with multiple issues. Unfortunately the only other service provider has a monopoly on the area with a $400 sign up fee.

In trying to transfer my service to my new apartment, century link discontinued my service with the excuse that the area is in exhaust, telling me I โ€œlost my slot for serviceโ€ by the transfer.

All the representatives explanations were illogical, especially that I can sign up as a new customer for a higher monthly price. Who controls this company?

They deceptively promised to lower the rate for low income person over the phone multiple times but not following-through with confirmation email or billing. I had wasted more than five hours of calling time about this.Waste me a lot of time.

Is it really going to be necessary to get local media involved with Century Link? Is it true that Prism will no longer be made available and that any discounts issues in previous conversations are now null and void?

Is it true Century Link will only be offering discounts for Direct TV through AT&T? That is what we are being told. Some bills are 40% more than promised.

It appears many have filed complaints, some with the FCC and others through other sources. Is it possible to get a straight answer and a straight deal from Century Link any more?

Can I still file with this suit ? Iโ€™ve been with this company for over 20 years and have no other choices where I live.

I just "fired" Centurylink recently & feel CL issues are not being addressed properly by the FCC. Oh yes they'll rebut for us to CL, but won't take legal actions on all our similar issues that CL is clearly guilty of.

FCC states individually contact lawyers or begin a class action lawsuit.

And where does such monies come, especially for a senior with permanent disabilites to hire an attorney when they charge $350 an hour? Who protects the consumer from corporate vultures, in my opinion, like Centurylink?

Contact the Attorney General's office of the U.S.A.( the retention department.) Also the Attorney General of your State, the F.C.C. & the F.T.C.

& the B.B.B. Send complaint in business envelope (s) through certified mail. Please state your complaint(s) in brief unemotional clear words.

I have never seen a company as unprofessional and dishonest as CenturyLink. If all complainers do this we can get these people out of business throughout the United States.

I've had them three months and can't believe the price gouging.

signed up for 54.99 internet and phone, have paid 337, about tripple what it was supposed to be. br.bl555@***.com

I had the exact same experience, spoke with one of there sales reps who had a smoking deal for wireless internet for 29.99 with the router it would be 34.99.

Last month I logged on to find out their 34.99 went to 94.67 so I called and dealt with a rude lady "who has no boss because she is the boss" and told me that's for hook up fees, I argued with her and she hung up on me.

I called customer service and explained the situation and they forwarded me back to that lady. So she hung up again. I called their sales department and they apologized like crazy and said they messed up the billing on their end, and hook up fee was 20 dollars. last month was 55.05 due to their "hook up" fee which they turn on thru their internet (not physically turned on a switch living in condominiums).

Fine okay, I paid over the internet using their pay service.

15th came around this month I went to pay and the total was 64.00. my wife called this time to straighten out the situation with their billing, we got the same rude woman who my wife dealt with and started to raise her voice and woke up my 2 year old who is sick with hand foot mouth right now. My girlfriend asked to speak with her supervisor because she declines to give us her name, so she got her in touch with a "Gabriel" who turns out gave her a fake employee number.

Well he said I only paid a partial payment which AGAIN is untrue. MY bank statements say other wise. She let him know of this fact. He said fine "I'll send you a check for 55.05 back and cancel your service" hung up on her.

She called me while I was at work around 4 today and let me know of what happened. I called waited 30 minutes to speak with someone and asked for "Gabriel" and gave employee number that he gave to my wife. The rep said that employee number doesn't exists, so she put me in with billing. I got the SAME woman who before answering me goes "*** my eyelash fell off" and said sorry.

I wanted an explanation and she said I only have been paying partial payments and to be in good standing I would have to pay 119.07? (Mind you my service started in September) Where did that come from? I asked how she got that and she started talking numbers, and I asked where did you get these numbers from? She said it's basic math.

I said okay I'm not sure I understand where you got the numbers from still, I called on the 1 year "special" you had for 29.99 and she said yes but you have only been making partial payments, I said okay, how? I make the payments that is due on your billing and I should only be paying 34.99- she reiterated that in order to be in good standing I would have to pay $119, and then my bill would go back to what I actually have to pay the $50.00 I said whoa, what I don't get how you're getting these numbers from, I said I have been paying what your billing is asking. She responded with saying "I guess you don't understand anything I'll transfer you to billing" hung up the phone again. HOW DOES SHE HAVE A JOB?

I was on the phone for over an hour to be told I was *** for questioning their billing. I want to know where they got their numbers. Now they're saying I owe them $119.07 and they're sending me my check back for "partial" payment on their site? You can't pay partial its full payment only.

They screwed me and my wife. Money is not the issue as at 25 And my wife at 21 we are making well over 90k a year after taxes, and I am not a dumb guy at all I have a very reliable income and hold a very serious management position at a large construction outfit(handling money) The issue is they're screwing us over with no reprocussions other than WE have to pay. This is unacceptable. I would understand if it was on my end he'll if pay easy, however we are obviously not the only ones dealing with this.

We need help as well.

Terrible offer. Why would you price increase for a loyal customer.

Loyal remember! Well all i can say is i have unlimited fast internet on my phone for 20 bucks a month.

I can take my phone alot of places and surf. Your stationary internet is not worth more than the mobile internet.

Where To File Complaints

If neither the company sending you the bill nor the company that provided the service in question will remove charges from your telephone bill that you consider to be incorrect, you can file a complaint with:

The FCC for charges related to telephone services between states or internationally.

Your state public service commission for telephone services within your state (contact information can be found at www.naruc.org or in the blue pages or government section of your local telephone directory).

The Federal Trade Commission for non-telephone services on your telephone bill.
