CenturyLink customer service

After our internet, phone, and fax went down in our office, I called centurylink for a little help getting back online. Our entire business stops when internet is down, so this was urgent, in my eyes. Using my personal cell phone I called CenturyLink. After going through the automated questions, I get a gentlemen who asked the issue. I told him that our internet was down. He answered that he was in the billing department, so he then transfered me to tech support. After holding for tech support for 12 minutes I got a woman who asked the issue. I told her that my internet was down. So she just hung up and apperantly transfered me to someone else, who also told nme they had transfered me to the wrong number. After a dozen round-about calls and being on the phone for 3 HOURS!, a gentlemen helped me "diagnose" the problem. He claimed our modem was the issue. He gave me two options. 1) Drive 35 miles top get a new modem. 2) Wait 4 days for a new to be shipped..... HMMM. Considering the circumstances. I didnt have an option. I drove to get the new router. When I got there, there was a man yelling in the store at the clerk. She said "I dont know what to tell you sir, our sysytem is down." The gentlemen stormed out. So I say, Im guessing you cant exchange the modem. She said "no you will have to come tomorrow". I said "absolutely not". So I got the new modem and headed back. Turns out IT WASNT THE MODEM!!!!!!!!!!!! Systems had been down around the area, and internet was fixed the next day! Just fantastic. GOOD WORK CenturyLink! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Centurylink Sucks

CenturyLink has proven itself to be nothing more than some type of perverted, legalized crime syndicate that regularly and openly engages in outrageous lies, misrepresentation, bait and switch tactics, theft, fraud, blackmail, extortion and racketeering. These crimes are aimed directly at their customers. That they are allowed to continue to operate as a legitimate corporation in the U.S. should be a crime in itself. These are the types of unaccountable, fascist, criminals that one finds in Bella Russia, Central America and African banana Republics. This company is corrupt from top to bottom, should be fully investigated and because of it's inexcusable and criminal conduct, should be avoided at all cost.

DSL is slower than Dial up

New customer to Centurylink.

I m told that the DSL in the area is 1.5 ok if thats what it is.

I go the the Centurylink web page and see that dial up is faster than 1.5

When I ask about dumping DSL and doing the Dial up I am told that service is not an option in my area?

Really?

I am in the major city of fayetteville. meaning when I call for help that the service that arrives say city of fayetteville on it. DSL is only 1.5 and there is no dial up....... What part of NC is speeds are greater than 1.5 and there is dial up service. It sure is not in the city limits. Or was I lied to?

with dial up do you have to rest the modem every few min like once an hr. Tech been out and says there is nothing that can be done about when prime time usage and the speed drops below 1.5.

Still slow as *** but more dependable the TWC even with having to rest the modem.

Tech call supervisor and says there is no plans to switch to a diff switch station to free up band with or to make the speed faster.

1.5 = 1,500kbps

Dial-up (56k) = 56kbps

So no, Dial-up is not faster than 1.5kbps.

Century link is as bad as TWC for service

A new customer less than 30 days for DSL. I have had to throw a fit to get my name corrected on my account from being misspelled. I attempted to do it when I went in person to pay my first bill and they refused. I went back and had to pitch a fit to get it corrected. First I was told i had to contact customer service. 1) I do not have a phone or cell phone 2) I am at a CS center 3) it was set up incorrect here at this center when I signed up less than days ago 4) change it or find someone who can He had to go ask someone. everyone seems to quickly point out I dont know who you talk to and try to place the blame on others and not correct a problem. It is sad when a disable person had to make more than one trip to a service center to correct their error. I filed with the FCC and now here.

Centurylink the Real Problem

Ok so I am 18 and live in Roxboro NC i finally got a straight answer from centurylink why our internet is really bad all the time. The problems that we have is that we USED to have 8mbps and then out of the blue we had speed drops where our speed was down to 1.5mbps. So for 4 months we had service techs to come and check the lines in and out of our house and there was never a problem with them. Well i got so pissed because they where not fixing the problem that i called the district manager and they brought out the big boys with their big trucks and at that point i was told the truth. I was told that centurylink has been overselling their internet. This means that they have promised everyone speeds all over the district up to 10mbps and everyone could have that speed at first well then more people got the service and then it pushed the main server over the top and could not supply everyone with the high speed you pay for. The symptoms of this problem are as follows (higher ping number, speed drops, lag spikes, no service at all, phone static, ect....). The only way to fix these problems is for them to upgrade the main server to a IPV6 server which they do not like to do due to the fact that it costs them money and i mean a lot of money. So in the end of this problem and with so many others in my district being so pissed off about this reoccurring problem they have decided to upgrade the server, BUT they are taking their sweet time to do it the ticket for the upgrade had a due date of December of 2012. This means that they will probably wait until the last minute to fix the problem. The worst problem is that we do not have any other ISP's in the area so we are stuck. UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! So now you know what the real problem is with all of this BS and now you can tell the company you know exactly what they are up to and the big fat mistake they have made.

I cant do contact anyone anymore because they said if i called one more time that they would cut our service off and would charge us a contract termination fee. But thank you for the offer and i want to call the FCC about it but right now they are not going to do anything about it.

Two weeks and still no toll Free!

We ported our Business numbers from CBeyond to Century Link when our old business closed and we moved to open our new business. All of our numbers ported to our new location just fine. Except Century Link neglected to Port our Toll Free. We found this out over two weeks ago. Now, two weeks later, they are still "Working on it" We're about to hit our third weekend with no toll free. Every bit of advertising we did has this toll free number on it. People call and hear the words "This number has been disconnected" What do you think when you hear that? Business closed right? Its a Death blow to a new business. Thank you Century Link!

Centurylink is ***!!!!!

Why does Centurylink.com advertise that they have all it takes for high speed internet in rural America yet I have had this for two years and it has done nothing but get worse. I even bought a new computer thinking mine were just getting old. NOT!!! It all became much slower still over time. I call the company and after several attempt of waiting on line talking to a computer, (which by the way was coming through much clearer than my computer), I finally got to speak to someone. Still got nowhere and it's still getting slower... By by Centurylink!!!!!

I've lost phone and internet service at least 6 times in the past 8 days. When you call (from cell phone) you have to enter your home phone number and cell number for call back.

Then each person you get transferred to asks for it again.

Then they go through a series of insulting questions to see if it's somehow your fault. Then it ends with them estimating service will return in approximately 24 hours and then thanking me for "choosing CenturyLink." Like I have a choice.

Worst company ever

I have got direct tv set up and bundles century Link Internet. The first 3 weeks were fine, but now my internet logs on and off by itself, while i got to this page it restarted 4 times in about 3 minutes. I have called them for 3 days straght and everytime they push it back a day. My internet still has the probem and they dont seem to care and tomorrow never comes. On top of that when i got my first bill it was double what it should be, they upgraded my internet without asking which added money to the monthly payment and the modem i purchased was double. Do yourself a favor and go with another company, they obviously dont care.

I now have service however I cannot set voice mail because I need a four digit code to set it up. When I called to get the code, Century Link does not show I have phone service.

My Internet doesn't work because my password isn't correct according to Century Link, even though they sent me an email with the password. I give up

This is by far the worst company I have dealt with. I had my phone service and internet moved from my old house to my new house which was 4 blocks away.

It took an hour on the phone to process this. Seven days into the service I still do not have service. I called them and after an hour and a half of being on the phone with them, it was determined I was assigned a new phone number but was not told it changed. They guaranteed it was fixed.

Seven more days go by and still no service. Another phone call and another hour out of my life. There was a typo on my old phone number but they fixed it and will send out a new modem for my troubles. Day 22.....on the phone for another hour.

How simple can it be for a landline and Internet service to be transferred. I am being told they did not have me listen to a recorded message about their company that's why my service was not connected.

BTW.....they have charged me for 22 days of non-service. No wonder this company is having financial problems.

Centurylink is a bad joke

I moved to a new area and signed up for 2 years with centurylink. When I signed up I was told that I would get 7 bmps but I ended up getting 1.5 bmps. I cannot login to pay my bill online. I cannot get help when I call customer service becasuse of "the area I live in" and in one call to customer service I was transfered back and forth between centurylink offices in 2 different states 5 times, both locations saying that the other location could help me. When I signed up, I requested that the modem be sent to my billing address, not the address of the service, but they sent the modem to the service address, where the modem sat outside for weeks until I was able to get there. Every month is a bad joke with this slow service that I have to mail in payments for. I can't wait until this 2 years is over! I miss Frontier. Do not sign up for centurylink or qwest- it is not worth your time or money.

IP changes daily, PBL for no reason

Internet lost every day, at most every other day. Causes VoIP phone loss, complete loss of email in progress, and obviously no general internet available.

We have a PC - dynamic addressing and 2 iPads, also dynamic IP. After a failure, at least a reboot of the computer and power off reset of the iPads is required to reaquire addressing. ipconfig /release and /renew do not achieve re-addressing. My VoIP phone system requires power off reset at least half the time.

After suffering this for quite a while, i started recording my real IP address, which changed every day after the failure. After looking at Spamhaus.org, I found out the most recent IP addresses were assigned to the PBL. There is no reason for this, I am not spamming. I have updated anti-virus on the PC, nothing found.

I've checked sent message files on the PC and iPads - no spam.

I have authentication turned on, on the PC and iPads, so that isn't the issue.

This happens to me too. My modem gets too hot and starts to overheat (I think), which brings my speed way down.

So I turn it off to cool awhile and reboot. When it boots up the speed is up to where it should be, but I find that my IP has changed. This is a real pain because I work remotely and my IP is white listed to access the server. So every time I have to reboot the modem, I need to white list a new IP.

Pain in the ***! Is there a way to keep the same IP with CenturyLink?

Worst company I have ever dealt with in my life!

So as this horrible experience started I moved my home phone number to vonage to save some money and to get their most expensive internet and highest speed 40 Mbps. Once the number was transferred I called them up to upgrade my internet and they told me a account cancellation was in order. I asked why or if it could be stopped and the person said they didnt know why and could not stop it. Few days later our internet was shut off completely. We called to get it reconnected and they said they could not for 30 days we tried to find out why or get this time span changed and got nowhere. We tried again in a few days and delt with the worst suprivisors ever not only could they not help they completely treated us like thieves for trying to switch our home phone when we wanted to buy their most expensive internet plan in its place. We had to call over 5 times and none of their customer service could help till the last that said for some reason the system wont let them reconnect our line but we could sign up as a new customer. Annoyed and angry we told them fine do that and guess what it took 20 days to get them to plug it in for the bogus reason they had to send a tech to install a phone filter so we cant use the line with a home phone. We had to use a cricket 3g internet adapter for a month just to have any form of internet which is required to have a home phone through vonage. After the long wait and finally getting the internet hooked up it worked fine for 1 week then low and behold the internet was dead without reason. We dealt with customer service again and they told us it would take around 10 days to send a tech to diagnose the problem... But finally we had a customer service lady who thought that was wrong so she called and got the days bumped down to about 4. So when the tech came and said the line had been disconnected by "mistake" in their phone node and they plugged it back in. The internet working again would be a good thing right? Wrong a month later the internet died mysteriously again and so here we were on the phone again with customer service and they again told us 7-8 days to fix it. The lady worked with us and called the techs directly who said they had time in 2 days to fix it. They didn't know why the system said 8 days. When the tech came they said our line wire had been physically cut and they fixed it up for us without further issue and even came to our house and checked our box to be sure that would fix it. Explain to me how JUST OUR internet was unplugged and physically cut and all our neighbors internet was fine and they use century link too. By far centurylink is the worst company i have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We had to fight them on everything just to get them to do their job. I cannot even believe they are still in business when they treat their customers like a bunch of manure. Wouldnt surprise me if the suprivisors who were a complete and total *** to us were the ones who unplugged it and cut the wire. Its like the only qualification to be a suprivisor at century link is treat customers like worthless manure and dont by any means try to help them, just let them be pissed and rub it in their face that century link is the only provider offering the speeds you need. Truly i wish i was making this up atleast then it would be a funny story, but sadly its true and oh so bitterly true. Cut your losses and just go with any other company. Pay more if you have to its worth it! Even when our internet works we never get near our 40 Mbps connection, we are lucky to get 15 Mbps to 25 Mbps. We never were able to get that promised 40 Mbps, or even the promised 1.5 Mbps upload speed. I never thought i would miss qwest but atleast they kept our internet up and had nice customer service if it stopped working. Sure they were overpriced but it worked which is worth it! If you have to pay a bit more for internet from another company do it by all means you will thank yourself in the future!

Disgraceful service

Absolutely the worst customer service since Sprint. The phone system routes you to the wrong place. Customer service (when you FINALLY reach them) gives wrong information and then transfers you to another wrong extension. With the merger, CenturyLink, CenturyTel, and Qwest have no idea what they are doing. "Thank you for choosing CenturyLink" is what I hear at the end of the call - IF I HAD A CHOICE, I WOULD NEVER USE CENTURYLINK OR ANY OF THEIR SISTER COMPANIES. Thanks for running me around the barn for THREE days with wrong automated routing of my call, incorrect departmental transfers, and misinformation. If you were a privately held company, YOU WOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS. Fortunately for you, you have a monopoly in rural areas.

Centurylink just stole $99.99 from my bank account.

Upgraded my Centurylink internet service to their 12 megabit service. (Never runs above 8.5 btw) Send the old modem back the same day I got the new one in their prepaid mailer as requested. Thank goodness I kept the tracking number. 3 months later I get a $99.99 charge on my bill for not returning the modem. After 38 minutes on the phone, they agree they got the modem back three months ago. They said I will not be charged for the modem when they hit my checking account. Sure enough, they stole the money from my account. Of course I am *** for giving them the opportunity.

BOY! Do you have a ton of guts "B with the CenturyLink Help Team." You come to a place where people can warn others about a rip off outfit like yours and feel at peace doing it and you just let them KNOW FOR A DEAD BANG FACT that your outfit is watching this sight like a hawk!

I am willing to bet your outfit is using this sight and others like it to find enough poor fools to drag into court for not paying your close out fees or some other such ***!

Century Link and trained monkeys

Do Not use CENTURY LINK. They are thieves !!! I moved 2 months ago. I called CL 6 weeks in advance to make sure there were no problems. I wanted the exact same service at my new apartment 2 blocks away. I was assured everything was fine and my service would be moved and kept exactly the same. I was told I could have "overlapping" service at both locations during the weekend I was moving. Sounds good, right ?

The Thursday before I was moving I get an e-mail saying my modem was shipped. I had been paying for Internet for 15 years - without a modem ? I called and they told me to refuse it. They billed $100 for it, anyway. While I was on the phone I asked about my service. They told me that the service would be turned off at the old apartment on Friday and the new service would be connected Monday afternoon at the new place. THAT IS NOT WHAT I WAS PROMISED. I had no phone service for 3 days. On Monday I called Florida - checking on my 19 year old daughter who was traveling. On Tuesday I had no long distance service. Took them 5 days to restore it and NOW THEY ARE CHARGING ME A LONG DISTANCE SERVICE CHANGE FEE. I didn't change my LD service. I wanted and have the same as I've had for years.

Co - 3 things needed transferred: phone, long distance and Internet. They *** up all 3. I asked them: "Is there anything else you could have done wrong?" They had no answer.

Now I am being billed more than $20 a month more than I was billed for 10 years. I've talked to half a dozen trained monkeys. Why should it be my responsibility to have get upset and call these idiots repeatedly to get them to fix their mistakes. I am 61 years old, been through chemo twice and this stress detrimentally affects my health. Century Link does not give a ***. They have taken the opportunity of my moving to gouge me and overbill me and they ignore my calls. DON"T USE CENTURY LINK !!!

CENTURYLINK QWEST TERRIBLE SERVICE,LIES

Just like I said, You name it and they do it wrong. The latest.. You have to laugh or cry. I purchased a modem from "Qwest" 3 years ago" I cancelled service and went with another provider for the last 2 1/2 years. 6 months ago I went for the 19.95 internet deal. This week 9-5-2012 I purchased new phone service since I moved to a low cell phone reception area. I was promised Internet/telephone filters. Long story and 5 calls and 12 department later, yes with one hang up they want me to pay for the filters. The company is a laughingstock and most of the public knows it. They needed the CenturyLink name ploy to stay in business. I predict they will continue to lower prices and offer more services like the telephone service I purchased and they tried to increase the price on just to stay in business. Sad company. Trick is just don't call the idiots trained to incentive sell if you don't have to, they will just give you more then you want or at least over charge you for what you do purchase. Amazing CenturyLink/Qwest (Always Qwest to me) offers a 30 day back out period. You wont see the bill until after the 30 days even if your an existing customer due to the fact they lock you out of update in your online account status. My status says I don't have an account. So does customer service. New customers can't get an online account to watch the billing until after 30 days. One day I will be older and just not give a darn. It does get easier with time to deal with idiots and bad companies but I have never see a company worse then the company that will always be called Qwest to me. Lets keep them around if for no other reason to keep Comcast and AT&T competitive.
