I'm on Centurylink internet service in Colorado and I received my last bill and it went up .99 cents for an "Internet cost recovery fee". I tried to find this on there web sight with no explanation.

I called billing customer service and was routed to Salt Lake City and the guy had no information on this FCC ruling nor could he provide me with any info on it. He put me on hold to find a contact and then hung up on me. Now I'm pissed!

I googled this and found the web sight so I called the customer service number listed for Century link and this guy could not provide me with any info on this FCC ruling and where the .99 cent increase was made up and the more I asked for FCC ruling numbers and cost numbers he finally just said it's a "RATE INCREASE" That's what I figured!! I hung up, C-Link is just as bad as Comcast!!!!!

found one thing that might help some of us. they CANNOT charge the fee, now $3.99 a month, for those of us who got the "price for life" plan.

we went that route back when it was still qwest.

called and not only are they stopping that on our bills but they have gone back and credited us for the WRONG messed up charge. again only for those with the old "price for life."

just surprised that you really thought a customer service rep would be able to quote you the number of a fcc ruling ???? Their regulatory office at their headquarters in monroe, la would have been able to tell you pronto don't you think?

Minneapolis here. Internet cost recovery fee on Century Link just went up to $3.99 from $1.99 a 100% increase.

What is going on?

I was so mad when my bill went up $.99 in month 9 of 12 of an annual contract. I had to spend 2 weeks on the phone when my internet was initially hooked up a couple of years ago.

Just to get them to agree to the rate they had initially offered me I had to go through a lot of trouble and they tried to charge me when the dummy couldn't install my internet the first round. I have had to spend plenty of time with them on the phone since they initially tried to bully me as a new customer, so when I saw this $.99 I thought to myself this isn't just a dollar this is my time wasted on the phone before I'm due to deal with their customer support at the end of the year. I asked what this charge was for and they said "a mandatory tax" and when asked what the mandatory tax was they replied, "as in not voluntary, like sales tax, you don't have a choice in paying it." Well that's cute.

Typical we're big your small bullying for a dollar. Makes you want to snap.

Please consider filing a consumer complaint with the Federal Communications Commission and possbily the CO Attorney General's office. They snookered me with a "locked" and "guaranteed" rate agreements for four months then added this maintenance fee.

How do they get away with this?

The FCC will make an inquiry. So far, CL responded saying the fee is "sustained" per their ... and I'm not kidding ...

Customer Advocacy Group in Denver. What a joke.
