In short, while the problem was found and dealt with - mostly thru my own efforts - I am still an extremely dissatisfied customer.
For the past few days, I've had to change the IP address in my modem every morning and every evening, because every time it grabs a new one, it ends up on a blocked list on http://www.spamhaus.org. This is getting old and very very annoying. What this tells me is that spamhaus is routinely blocking Centurylink IP addresses, and Centurylink doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. I got the party line of "We have no control over Spamhaus and it takes time to resolve these kinds of issues etc etc etc" This from the so-called techs that did not help me at all.
This is a totally unacceptable level of "service".
What this blockage does is prevent me from sending emails - apparently mistaking them for spam.
Furthermore it took talking with three techs (though I hesitate to call them that) 3 times in one day - a total of six hours of my life that I'll never get back - to figure it out. And TWICE they had me set up entirely new accounts in my modem which meant I had to re-set up every wireless device in my home each time. They didn't figure out that all I had to do to get a new IP address was power-cycle the modem - I figured that out myself. What I want to know is, what is Centurylink going to do to get OFF of Spamhaus's black list, and am I the only person in the known universe having this problem?? Alternate internet providers in my area are looking better and better all the time. Changing our email addresses is a pain, but so is power cycling my modem twice a day forever because Centurylink can't figure out how to do business properly.

| 1. Written by bblackmoor on February 10, 2012 from richmond, virginia, US I am having similar problems. I can't reach the bleedingcool web site, for example. That's just the most recent web site I can't reach. Unfortunately, CenturyLink is the ONLY high speed internet provider where I live. It's literally CenturyLink or nothing. I am considering signing up with a proxy service, but Iam afraid that might have the same problem. |

Written by george on February 5, 2012 from marshall, virginia, US there is nothing century link can do, they dont own any stake in spamhaus or control anything in it. the IP address your getting has sent spam in the past so someone on centurylink has been sending spam recently. email servers refuse to accept spam from these ip addresses based on various block lists. you need to find a different internet provider who does not allow spam to be sent from their network. even if you try and relay thru another provider the receiving system will reject your mail IF you connected thru centurylink. other option is to use a free email system like yahoo etc. |
