I called to sign up for a new home line. At the time, I twice stated that I didn't want my information sold.

I also requested an unlisted number (I reinstalled a home line for safety issues). Within 2 days of my call to Centurylink (I had to give them my cell phone number initially, since I didn't have a home number yet) both my home line and my cell were bombarded with robocalls that leave constant voicemails, telemarketing calls, repeated calls from the same number... we're talking 50 calls a day on each phone. The only entity that supposedly had my home number was Centurylink, so I figured they were the common denominator for my home and cell number being sold.

I called their Customer Service line and told them what was happening. Their response was, "we didn't sell your info. However, since you have a listed number, the telemarketers found you on the internet, you need to have your number unlisted and it will cost an extra $5/month." Well, if Centurylink posted both my cell phone and my new home line together on the internet within two days of my new service, then they either sold my info or there is a big data breech somewhere. And if that is true, why was my cell number posted, too?

I call BS on the whole story: Centurylink sold my data. But there's not a thing I can do about it. I am on both my state and national do-not-call registries, yet I have received at least 15 calls on my cell already today from spam/telemarketers.

Centurylink is unfortunately the only option in my area (aren't monopolies illegal under the Sherman Antitrust Act?), otherwise I would tell them to get lost.

In my opinion, this qualifies as harassment, especially because I got the home line due to a domestic violence threat, and now my phones ring constantly and I never know if it has to do with that situation or it is junk.

CenturyLink Cons: Information being sold.

Yes, I have had the same experience. The sales calls started immediately when I had my phone turned on.

It rings off the hook all day.

I have to literally turn the ringer off to make it stop, thus making my phone almost useless. I plan to switch as soon as possible.
