Went to pay my bill at centurylink's website. We are a small business (2 phone lines) and DSL.

Was shocked to see that they now charge $8.95 if you want to pay by credit card. I called centurylink, the rep said "if it makes you feel any better, we don't get the fee, it goes to Speedpay"... nope, didn't make me feel any better!

One more reason to hate Century Link!! (By the way, my bill is 10 pages long, the phone # to call the phone company for customer service was buried at the bottom of page 4!)

Reason of review: Pricing issue.

Monetary Loss: $9.

Preferred solution: Price reduction.

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee

Centurylink now charges a fee which goes to a third-party payment processor (Speedpay) if you pay your bill with a debit or credit card. You can avoid paying this fee if you pay with your bank account but this involves providing your financial institution's routing and account number - an option which I avoid at all cost.

The workaround I've found to avoid paying the $3.50 Centurylink fee is to set up to payment thru my credit union's online bill payment tool.

This way, they pull the funds directly from my checking account without me providing CL any bank account info. I've done it a few times without accessing any additional fees from my bank or Centurylink.

I don't know if Century Link is to blame for this. The operator said it had something to do with them being a utility, and therefore the credit card company gets to charge.

If anyone's to blame it Republicans in Congress protecting their friends over at the credit card companies. These people are nothing but parasites.

I'd also like to file a formal complaint against Century Link over this appalling and gross unnecessary charge that wasn't in effect last month (3/2016) and randomly without notice magically appeared on my bill starting in 4/2016. That's $36 in charges just to pay my *** bill over the phone with my card.

That's like if you were to withdraw money from an ATM that isn't your bank and being charged to use their ATM,except your being FORCED into withdrawing the money.

Why am I paying a fee when I'm already paying a bill?! Take away Speedpay!

Yeah, just saw the $8.95 fee. Thankfully, I stopped in time and paid the bill through my bank's free bill paying service instead.

Complete ripoff. The credit card companies charge 3% of the bill and Century Link doesn't want to pay that anymore.

my centurylink phone bill is 33.49 now with a Speedpay fee by western union of almost 4 dollars, what a rip off!! A postal stamp would cost less or i could walk in an pay it, such an inconvenience.
